The BLK Spa Candle Care Guide: The Art of the Perfect Burn

There is an art to the way you light a candle—and a little intention can make every burn more beautiful.

At BLK Spa Experience™, a candle is more than fragrance. From the vessel and wax to the wooden wick, affirmation, and soundtrack, every detail is designed to create a moment that feels intentional.

Proper candle care helps protect that experience. It can encourage a cleaner, more consistent burn, help prevent tunneling, and help you enjoy more of the candle you chose.

Whether this is your first BLK Spa Experience candle or one of many, consider this your guide to the art of the perfect burn.

Why We Chose Coco Apricot Crème Wax

The foundation of our candles is Coco Apricot Crème, a luxurious coconut-apricot wax blend selected to complement the elevated sensory experience we want every BLK Spa candle to deliver.

Its creamy appearance pairs beautifully with our crystal vessels, while allowing fragrance to become part of the atmosphere rather than simply sitting in the room.

For us, luxury is not only about how a candle looks.

The vessel.
The fragrance.
The wax.
The wick.
The burn.
And most importantly, the feeling created when you light it.

The First Burn Sets the Tone

Your candle’s first burn matters.

When lighting your candle for the first time, allow the melted wax to gradually spread across the surface toward the edges of the vessel before extinguishing it.

Why?

If a candle is repeatedly extinguished after only a short burn, wax can begin melting primarily down the center rather than evenly across the surface. This is commonly known as tunneling.

Giving your candle enough time to establish an even melt pool helps set it up for more consistent burns later.

This is one of the simplest ways to help your candle perform beautifully—and help you enjoy more of it.

If Your Candle Begins to Tunnel

First, don’t panic—and definitely don’t give up on your candle.

If you notice wax building up around the sides of the vessel, allow a future burn a little more time so the melt pool has an opportunity to widen.

The goal is not to force the wax to melt as quickly as possible. The goal is to allow the candle to burn steadily and evenly.

Patience is part of the process.

Trim Your Wooden Wick

Before relighting your candle, remove the loose, charred portion of the wooden wick.

A properly maintained wick helps create a steadier flame and can reduce excessive soot, smoke, and an overly aggressive burn.

Once your candle is completely cool, gently pinch away the burned portion of the wick or use a wick trimmer.

You want the wick short, clean, and ready for its next burn.

And remember: never trim or handle the wick while the candle is hot.

Give Your Candle Room to Breathe

Where you burn your candle matters, too.

Place it on a stable, heat-resistant surface and away from strong drafts, ceiling fans, open windows, or air vents.

Moving air can cause the flame to flicker excessively and may lead to an uneven burn.

Allow your candle to create its own atmosphere.

No rushing.
No competing with the room.

Just fragrance, warmth, and presence.

Know When It Is Time to Extinguish the Flame

More burn time is not always better.

Allow your candle to create its atmosphere, then extinguish it before the vessel becomes excessively hot or the burn has gone on for too long.

Always follow the safety instructions included with your candle and never leave a burning candle unattended.

Once extinguished, allow the wax and vessel to cool completely before touching, moving, trimming, or relighting it.

So, How Long Will My Candle Last?

One of the questions we hear most often is:

“How many hours will my candle burn?”

The answer can vary.

Burn time is influenced by several factors, including the candle size, wick configuration, room conditions, and how the candle is cared for from one burn to the next.

That is why candle care matters.

A well-maintained candle is more likely to burn consistently and allows you to enjoy the fragrance and experience the way it was intended.

Rather than thinking only in terms of hours, think in terms of moments.

A quiet morning.
An evening wind-down.
Dinner with people you love.
A few minutes to breathe.

The candle becomes part of the memory.

Make the Burn Part of the Experience

Candle care does not have to feel like a list of rules.

At BLK Spa Experience, it is simply another opportunity to become intentional.

Light.
Allow the flame to signal the beginning of your moment.

Breathe.
Let the fragrance slowly enter the space.

Affirm.
